Sunday, May 3rd - 12:00pm - Major’s Hill Park
❋
Power Hungry:
Because people are struggling to put food on their plate and that is NOT OKAY.
We need to be more outraged about food insecurity in our community.
Power Hungry is a very simple call to action.
The plan is, everyone brings a grocery store gift card worth $10-$15, we meet up and walk all together from Major’s Hill Park towards the Salvation Army Booth Centre where we will have 2 volunteers deliver those cards to a staff member inside the facility.
This is about a 10 minute walk between both places so, if we come across an unhoused neighbor along the way looking for a warm nourishing meal, we must to stop and share one of our gift cards with them.
Prior to the delivery of the gift cards, we will establish a safe word that we may use during our time together if there comes about any situation where someone in our group feels unsafe and uncomfortable, members of the group can be made aware and address the matter accordingly. We’ll have an open informal discussion rooted in community care, while brainstorming future collective actions such as this one. Our discussion will also include recognizing how Palestinian, Congolese, and Sudanese exploitation is directly connected to the way we live our lives here in the colonial West.
The discussion will begin at 12pm on Sunday May 3rd and the walk will start when the discussion is over, roughly between 12:30pm and 1pm.
And yes, rain or shine, this is happening! Some of our neighbors and community members don’t get to choose when they’re hungry, for the sake of our community, we are committing to this time and date.
We encourage everyone to purchase a $10-$15 gift card next time you’re picking up groceries, the mission of this action is to feed as many people in our community as we can, who need it.

Violence is a consequence of what happens when basic human needs are not met, such as food insecurity. Every human being has a right to food, water, shelter, community, and an opportunity to practice their faith as long as it does not bring harm to others.
With that being said, we are taking security measures to ensure everyone feels safe on our walk we will have a buddy system in place, as well as establish a safe word. This word is meant for us to keep in mind on our walk in the event that anyone is feeling uncomfortable and unsafe and want to be removed from any situation, they can just say the safe word.
